Dutch inventory quality assurance at provider level

The NLQAVET project had a busy summer. First of all we were finishing the inventory regarding quality assurance at provider level that took place in April, which lead to a final report.
The inventory consisted of three parts; Quality Assurance policy, Implementation of Quality Assurance and Impact of Quality Assurance. The report shows that a dilemma exists between learning and development and internal and external accountability as goals of Quality Assurance. Also the involvement in and commitment towards Quality Assurance is perceived as higher in the top of organisations. The test and taste of this project provides opportunities for VET institutes to improve this last issue.

Last May a call for VET-instititutions was distributed. This call is part of the test and taste that gives VET-institutions the opportunity to work on their culture of quality assurance. Or, as we would rather call it, awareness of quality assurance at team level. We had enough enrollments to select five VET-institutions and met with these institutions to clarify their needs and our goals. During July and August the projectteam met several times to set up a rough program for the teamsessions we will facilitate in the participating institutions, but also to get more acquainted with the method of ‘Appreciative Inquiry’ and the cultural side of QA. We had some meetings with experts on these topics to raise common understanding. In September and October most pilots started off with their first team session. Remarkably but happily, the AI-method was well received and even though many challenges arised, we are looking forward to the next months where we hope to see teams and management develop more awareness on quality assurance.
